Officers rescue 'distressed' kestrel with broken wing found in Chesterfield

Police in Chesterfield helped bring a ‘distressed’ kestrel with a broken wing to safety.

‘Eagle eyed’ officers from the Wingerworth and Rural Police Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) came across the injured bird while on patrol in North Wingfield.

PCSOs Montisci and Coates found the kestrel which ‘looked in distress’ and ‘clearly had a broken right wing’.

After a resident helped the officers safely capture the injured bird, the kestrel was taken to a vet for an examination.

In a post on Facebook, the Wingerworth and Rural Police SNT wrote: “This makes a refreshing change.

"While patrolling in North Wingfield, eagle eyed PCSO’s Montisci and Coates happened to stumble across this little fella.“The kestrel looked in distress and clearly had a broken right wing.“With the help of a local resident, the bird was captured safely by PCSO Coates and is now in the safe hands of the vets.“Job well done!”
