Buxton 1 Sheffield Wednesday 1 - match report

Buxton were denied victory on Tuesday night, when Sheffield Wednesday’s under-21 side hit a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw.

The visitors showed their brightness early on, but it was Mark Reed who threatened to open the scoring.

The Bucks’ all-time top scorer troubled the Owls’ keeper with a rasping drive before a header crashed off the bar but it was strike partner Lee Morris who made it 1-0 not long after, with a close-range header.

Andy Warrington then kept the South Yorkshire side at bay with a flurry of saves in the second-half but just when Buxton thought they had wrapped up the win, Adam Hinchliffe struck two minutes from time to seal the draw.

Buxton’s penultimate friendly sees another Steel City side, United, visit the Silverlands on Saturday.

Buxton: Warrington, Johnson, Palmer, Ryan, Stevens, Green, Maxfield, Niven, Reed, Morris, King.
