Matlock is undoubtedly one of the best places that I have ever visited across Derbyshire – with this picturesque town offering something to satisfy everyone’s tastes.
Whether you’re searching for great pubs, popular restaurants, scenic views or unique events, Matlock has you covered – and these are some of the reasons why I think you should visit the town the next time you find yourself in Derbyshire.

2. Places to eat
Matlock is a great place to visit if you’re looking to enjoy a delicious meal. Mad Hatter and Ostello Lounge are perfect to visit for a relaxed lunch, and there are plenty of cafes dotted around the town. If you’re searching for a high-end dining experience, why not visit Stones - which has two AA Rosettes and is among just 12 Derbyshire restaurants to feature in the Michelin Guide? Photo: Brian Eyre

3. Great pubs and bars
Matlock is home to a number of brilliant pubs and bars - offering something for everyone. The Thorn Tree Inn is a must-visit if you’re looking for somewhere to enjoy a drink while taking in stunning views of the hills surrounding the town - with the iconic Riber Castle on the horizon. The Newsroom is a cosy venue serving a great range of beers and ales - and I’d definitely rank it among the town’s best hidden gems. The Remarkable Hare and The Tipsy Toad are well worth visiting if you find yourself in the area, while The Castle - the latest tap room from Ashover Brew Co - has just opened its doors in the town centre. 4. Unique events
There are plenty of unique events that take place in and around Matlock. On Boxing Day, the town’s annual raft event takes place - which sees people paddle down the River Derwent on homemade rafts through Matlock, Matlock Bath and Cromford Meadows. This amazing festive event supports the Royal National Lifeboat Institute - having raised more than £250,000 since it was first held. The Matlock Bath illuminations take place every year, featuring a spectacular parade of illuminated boats along the River Derwent - along with entertainment and firework shows. Photo: Brian Eyre
