Matlock is undoubtedly one of the best places that I have ever visited across Derbyshire – with this picturesque town offering something to satisfy everyone’s tastes.
Whether you’re searching for great pubs, popular restaurants, scenic views or unique events, Matlock has you covered – and these are some of the reasons why I think you should visit the town the next time you find yourself in Derbyshire.

5. Bustling town centre
Matlock’s town centre is among the best across the county, with plenty of great independent businesses to visit if you’re searching for places to shop. Photo: Brian Eyre

6. ‘Little Switzerland’
Matlock Bath is just down the road from Matlock - making it very easy to combine a trip to both places on the same day. Matlock Bath is one of the most scenic villages in Derbyshire, and became a hotspot for significant historical figures after warm springs were discovered in the late 1600s. Lord Byron visited and compared the area to alpine Switzerland, and the nickname of ‘little Switzerland’ was born. This tourist destination offers the feeling of visiting the beach without having to travel to the coast - with great chip shops, cafes and amusement arcades on offer - along with the Heights of Abraham and their iconic cable cars. 7. Scenic walks
Matlock is the perfect place to go for a relaxed stroll, either through Hall Leys Park or around the town centre. You can also head out of the town for a picturesque walk. There is a scenic route that connects Matlock to the nearby village of Bonsall - while the beautiful Lumsdale Falls are also among the most popular spots in the area. Photo: Brian Eyre

8. Close to popular spots
Matlock is also a short drive away from a number of popular tourist hotspots - including Chatsworth House, Bakewell, Haddon Hall and more. Photo: Brian Eyre
