The 30-year-old spent the majority of last season as back up to the Iron’s number one stopper Luke Daniels.

Anyon did make 15 appearances, however, including the final eight games of the season and both of Scunthorpe’s League One play-off semi-finals, after Daniels broke his ribs in March.

The new Spireite began his career with Port Vale, for whom he made 118 appearances.

His 2008/09 season was brought to a premature end after he fractured his tibia in a March 2009 game against Chesterfield, when he collided with Drew Talbot.

It was almost a full year before he returned to first team action for Vale and in the summer of 2010 he left to join Lincoln City.

Two years later the 6ft 2ins custodian moved to Shrewsbury but had to wait a year and a half before making his league debut, somewhat ironically against Port Vale.

Anyon came close to securing a move to Cardiff City in the summer of 2014 but a medical picked up an irregular heartbeat and the deal eventually fell through.

He underwent three operations to correct Wolff–Parkinson–White syndrome and in January 2015 returned to the game with Scunthorpe United.

The man from Lytham St Annes made 24 appearances in total for the Iron before his release last week.

In five games against Chesterfield Anyon has won twice and lost three times, conceding six goals.

His most recent encounter with Town came in March when he helped Scunthorpe beat Gary Caldwell’s side 3-1 at Glanford Park.

Anyon will provide stiff competition for Tommy Lee, who hopes to return to first team action this summer having missed the entire 2016/17 season after shoulder surgery and complications.
