Long delays on M1 in Derbyshire after vehicle overturned following collision

Traffic is tailing back on the M1 Southbound in Derbyshire, with delays of up to 30 minutes after a vehicle overturned following a collision.

Highways England have closed two lanes of traffic on the motorway Soutbound between Junction 29 at Tibshelf Services to Junction 28 after a crash between a vehicle, a caravan and gas cylinders earlier this afternoon.

Currently, there is congestion on the M1 with delays of up to 30 minutes for drivers and 4.5 miles of congestion following the collision which caused a vehicle to overturn.

Motorists are urged to allow extra time to complete journeys.

The vehicle is expected to be recovered and lanes reopened by 4.30pm today (Tuesday, August 10).

Highways England East Midlands tweeted: “The #M1 southbound #TibshelfServices (#Tibshelf) to #J28 (#A38 #Mansfield #Matlock) 3 lanes have been closed due to a collision. Traffic Officers@DerbyshireRPU & Recovery are on their way to the area.”

A vehicle has also broken down on the M1 southbound between Junctions 30 and J29A.
