Train company to restore key peak-time service to Chesterfield after U-turn

As we revealed earlier this week, CrossCountry said it would stop calling its services between Scotland and the South West at Chesterfield because of the extra time needed to get passengers on and off trains while maintaining social distance guidelines.
However, MP for North East Derbyshire, Lee Rowley, said discussions with the company had taken place to find a solution and now a number of peak time services will continue to serve the station.

Mr Rowley said: “Like so many residents and commuters, I was very disappointed when I heard the original announcement and have been in communication with CrossCountry to let them know my thoughts.
“Thankfully, they have taken on board feedback from myself, Mark Fletcher MP, local councils and residents regarding the strength of feeling about these changes. The restoration of peak time services is a step forward for North Derbyshire residents who rely on these services and will stop congestion on the platforms at stations further down the line.”
Tom Joyner, managing director of CrossCountry, said: “I am grateful to Lee and others for highlighting the continuing need for our trains at the busiest times of day.
