Funeral directors Harold Lilleker and Sons have released details of Ernie’s final journey ahead of the procession through Chesterfield and a significant number of fans, supporters and residents gathered at the Technique Stadium to pay their respects.

Hide AdThe funeral procession completed a lap of honour around Chesterfield FC’s home ground before crowds started to clap the hero who is known as a local legend.
His funeral service then took place at Chesterfield Crematorium.

Hundreds pay tribute to Chesterfield’s top goalscorer
Hundreds of tributes have also been paid to Ernie on social media.

Martin Thacker, vice-chairman of Chesterfield FC has paid tribute to the club’s all-time record goalscorer.
He said:
“In my eyes, Ernie wasn’t just a Spireites’ legend, he was a hero in every sense of the word. My thoughts are with his family at this time.”
Ernie starts his final journey through Chesterfield
The funeral procession carrying the 71-year-old has started to make its way through the town, as they prepare to travel past the Saltergate ground where Chesterfield FC used to train.
Before then arriving at the Technique Stadium for a lap of honour and a minute’s applause.

The 71-year-old who was regarded as a Chesterfield FC legend after earning the top goal scorer title for the club, will make his final journey down Ernie Moss Way to Chesterfield Crematorium for 3.10pm.

Residents and supporters are invited to gather outside the Technique Stadium by 2.50pm this afternoon before a lap of honour.
This will then be followed by a minute’s applause for Ernie at 3pm.
