Funeral directors Harold Lilleker and Sons have released details of Ernie’s final journey ahead of the procession through Chesterfield and a significant number of fans, supporters and residents gathered at the Technique Stadium to pay their respects.

Hide AdThe funeral procession completed a lap of honour around Chesterfield FC’s home ground before crowds started to clap the hero who is known as a local legend.
His funeral service then took place at Chesterfield Crematorium.

Ernie Moss’ daughter pays tribute to her ‘hero’ father ahead of funeral
The 71-year-old leaves behind his wife Jenny and daughters Nikki and Sarah, together with son-in-law Stu and grandchildren Henry, Georgia, Erin, Finn and Callie.
In a tweet, Nikki paid tribute to her dad who scored 192 goals in more than 500 appearances for the Spireites.
She wrote: Daddy, don’t know how I’m going to say goodbye to you today. My heart is broken. I will love you for eternity. Sleep tight my hero . X x x”.

Chesterfield FC supporters and the community are expected to turn up in huge numbers this afternoon to pay their respects to the 71-year-old who was well-known and loved in the town for his sporting achievements.
Ernie’s funeral procession will complete a lap of honour at the Technique Stadium which will then be followed by a minute’s applause at 3pm this afternoon.

Chesterfield FC’s all-time record goalscorer Ernie Moss to be laid to rest this afternoon
The Spireites legend sadly passed away from dementia last month.
Ernie will make his final journey this afternoon (Friday, August 6) leaving Harold Lilleker and Sons Whittington Moor funeral home at 2.10pm.
His family and friends will then join the funeral procession and pass the former Saltergate ground before travelling back to the Technique Stadium.
Supporters and friends are invited to gather outside the stadium by 2.50pm where Ernie will then be taken on a lap of honour.
There will also be a minute’s applause at 3pm.
He will then travel along Ernie Moss Way to Chesterfield Crematorium for his service at 3.10pm.
