Contestant on new series of The Great British Bake Off has connection to Chesterfield
A man born and bred in Chesterfield has been named among contestants in the new series of The Great British Bake Off.
Gary, 67, discovered his love of baking after buying his first cookbook five years ago. He beat prostate cancer and is now passionate about raising awareness and funds for cancer charities through bake sales and coffee mornings.
Retired garment technologist Gary and his wife, Donna, have been married for more than 30 years and live in Nottinghamshire. Their countryside smallholding is filled with animals, including sheep, horses, Shetland ponies, miniature pygmy goats and chicken.
When he’s not baking, Gary enjoys walks with his two Border collies, Ollie and Alfie.

The 17th series of The Great British Bake Off will premiere on Channel 4 on Tuesday, September 22 at 8pm.
Twelve contestants, including a paediatric doctor, a drag artist and a hairdresser, will be relying on their baking skills to impress new judge Nigella Lawson and seasoned adjudicator Paul Hollywood.
