The force said the motorist, who was driving a Skoda Fabia, ‘found out the hard way’ about the need to drive more carefully while roads are still icy after veering off the A38 in Derbyshire and crashing into a ‘slippery road’ sign yesterday evening.

No one was injured in the collision.

It comes after snow has fallen across the county for the last five days due to harsh winter weather caused by Storm Darcy.

In a social media post, Derbyshire’s Roads Policing Unit urged other drivers to slow down to avoid further crashes.

“It's cold and icy tonight so that means you might need to slow down”, the force wrote.

“The driver of this Fabia on the A38 found out the hard way.”
