Officers from Newbold Safer Neighbourhood Police Team were patrolling hot spot areas in Chesterfield over February 27 and 28, including Tesco on Lockoford Lane, following numerous reports that cars had been illegally gathering.

During the checks, police caught four occupants who had driven from Mansfield, despite the current lockdown restrictions, to Newbold and were gathering in the supermarket’s car park.

Police believe other vehicles had also travelled to Chesterfield from the Mansfield area and said they will be regularly patrolling the Tesco car park in Newbold ‘along with many other hot spot areas’.

In a post on Facebook, officers urged people to abide by the lockdown rules to stay local and only make necessary journeys to avoid being fined.
