Man charged with murder of woman from Chesterfield area

A man is due to appear in court today charged with the murder of a woman from the Chesterfield area.

Ashley Tinklin, 37, of Recreation Street, Selston, will appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court accused of murdering 32-year-old Dawn Fletcher.

The murder charge came after police were called to Alfreton Road, Selston, at around 6.25pm on Saturday following reports of a crash involving a van and a woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Eight other people were arrested as part of detectives’ enquiries and have now been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Following the incident, Detective Inspector Richard Monk, of Nottinghamshire Police, issued a public appeal for information.

He said: “This was a serious incident which has resulted in a woman losing her life.

“Her family is now being supported by specially trained officers.

“While we have made arrests as part of our investigation, we are working relentlessly to establish what happened.

“We are currently reviewing a number of lines of enquiry as part of our investigation.

“I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or may have information to get in touch with us as soon as possible.

“Any information you have, no matter how insignificant you think it may be, could play a role in helping us understand what happened.”

Inspector Simon Riley, of Nottinghamshire Police, added: “This is an incredibly concerning incident.”
