Police arrest seven people on suspicion of attempted murder after Derbyshire incident that left man with life-threatening injuries

Police have arrested seven people on suspicion of attempted murder - including four 16-year-olds - following an incident that took place in Derbyshire.

Officers were called out to reports of a disturbance in Vincent Street, Normanton - attending the scene at around 8.55pm on Monday, October 19.

It is reported that a group of men and teenage boys arrived at the scene in two cars – a grey VW Polo and a white VW Golf – and began fighting with another group in the street using a knife and a hammer.

A 20-year-old man sustained stab wounds and was taken to hospital to be treated for life-threatening injuries, but is now in a stable condition.

A 17-year-old boy and a 20-year-old man also sustained head injuries, which are not thought to be serious.

Officers were immediately dispatched to the scene and located two vehicles containing the suspects a short while later in Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire.

Four teenage boys, all aged 16, and three men (two 20-year-olds and a 19-year-old) were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. They remain in police custody.

A knife was also recovered from one of the vehicles. A scene was also established in Vincent Street whilst officers made enquiries, but the road closure has since been lifted.

Temporary Detective Inspector Alex Hathaway said: “We fully appreciate that incidents of this nature will cause concern in the community but I hope members of the public take some reassurance from the fact that we now have seven suspects in custody thanks to the speedy and co-ordinated response from our officers.

“Residents will see an increased police presence in the area whilst we carry out our enquiries and patrols will be stepped up.

“We believe this was an isolated incident, those involved are known to each other and there is no wider threat to the public.”

Officers are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident. They are also urging anyone with CCTV, Ring doorbell or dashcam footage which may have captured the incident - who have not already spoken to officers - to come forward.
