Chesterfield community hero braves 24h litter pick to support hospice
The fundraiser, which is still accepting donations, has raised almost £2,000.
Lee Brassington, 44, a Brimington community hero and litter picker, has taken on another incredibly demanding challenge to support Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice.
The CLP (Chesterfield Litter Pickers) founder travelled all the way to Rutland over the weekend and spent 24 hours litter picking at the ‘awful’ RJ’s A1 Layby.
Overall Lee, who had some help from two other CLP members Cheryl and Charles Twigg knowns as ‘the Chief’, collected staggering 221 bags of rubbish including 422 discarded ‘driver tizer’ bottles.
The litter pickers collected almost 2,000 kg of rubbish , including fly-tipped waste.

Lee said: “It's been an exhausting 24 hours, but what an effort from everyone involved.
“ This is by far the biggest haul I’ve ever been involved in!
“Team CLP has certainly made a huge difference once again.
“Thank you once again to everyone who donated, shared my posts, sent messages of encouragement, and supported me throughout this challenge.
“You’ve all played a part in making this happen, and I’m incredibly grateful.”

So far Lee’s fundraiser has raised £1935 - with the fundraising page set to close this evening (Wednesday, October 21).
All funds raised through the challenge are set to support children at Bluebell Wood Hospice.
The challenge comes after Lee organised a similar litter pick for Bluebell last year, raising over £1,300 for children and families supported by Bluebell.

Lee said: “ Last year, I raised £1,360, and this year we’ve absolutely smashed that!
“That is absolutely amazing, and I cannot thank you all enough.
“Every £1,000 raised funds 24 hours of specialist care following the death of a child, ensuring families receive immediate emotional and practical support when they need it most.
“This includes expert bereavement care, sibling support, counselling, family wellbeing services, and the compassionate professionals who are there from the very first moment of loss.
“We’re so close, and I’d love to get us over that £2,000 mark.
“I do like a nice round number!
“If you can spare just £1 or £2, every donation really does make a difference. “
