Latest health data shows 5 more patients died from Covid-19 within Chesterfield Royal Hospital

A total of five patients are confirmed to have died in Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust after testing positive for Covid-19, the daily health statistics out this afternoon (February 21) have shown.

The data released by NHS England today shows that across the country 258 hospital deaths were recorded in the 24 hours to 4pm on February 20, with five in Chesterfield.

There have now been 377 patients who have lost their lives from the virus while being cared for by Chesterfield Royal Hospital since the pandemic first hit last year.

Across England, the number of confirmed reported hospital deaths has increased up to 81,304.

The patients who lost their lives to coronavirus and were included in the latest reporting period after testing positive, were aged between 29 and 101 years old.

All except 17 people who died aged 52 to 100 years old had known underlying health conditions.

The deaths took place between December 10 2020 and February 20 2021 with the majority being on or after February 17 and the time taken to allow positive results to be received were among the potential factors in the delay between reporting fatalities.

NHS England’s daily virus fatalities data represents the deaths of hospital patients who had tested positive for Covid-19 in the previous 28 days and whose deaths were recorded in the latest reporting period.

There were also 31 deaths that were reported with no positive coronavirus test result, but the virus was documented as a direct or underlying cause of death in the death certification process.

A total of 196 patients across all settings in Chesterfield have died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 up to February 21, according to the most recent Government data.

This equates to 186.8 deaths per 100,000 people since the pandemic began, with the highest daily total being five deaths on January 14, February 5 and 8, 2021 .

While separate data from the Office for National Statistics data shows there have been a total of 173 deaths recorded in Chesterfield where the death certificate mentioned Covid-19 as one of the causes, up to February 5.
