Hope Valley's Art Trail by Rail returns for a second year
Visitors can collect a trail map from participating venues, then travel by train or bus to explore exhibitions
Hope Valley Climate Action has announced the return of the Art Trail by Rail, taking place over two full days on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 September.

Following a successful debut last year, this free event invites visitors to hop on and off the scenic Hope Valley railway line to discover local art, craft and creativity in villages from Chinley to Grindleford.
Last year's trail drew over 150 visitors, with 18 local artists taking part. This year, the event expands to even more venues across a full weekend, with over 40 artists offering a programme of open studios, demonstrations and hands-on workshops.
Visitors can collect a trail map from participating venues, then travel by train or bus to explore exhibitions and take part in activities including pottery-throwing, zine making, felting, sketching and collage sessions.
Padley Chapel is opening its doors especially for the Art Trail. The 14th-century chapel is rich in local history and will be an open space for you to try your hand at your own creativity.
Emily, founder of the Art Trail and community engagement lead at Hope Valley Climate Action, said: “We hope this project will inspire people who live in and visit the area to travel by sustainable means beyond the event.
“Also, the timing of this project couldn’t be better as the Department of Transport has recently announced funding to support the Mini Switzerland Project, which is an integrated transport demonstrator, using Hope Valley as the pilot project.”
The group says the event wouldn't be possible without the support of our sponsors and partners, and in particular TransPennine Express, who have helped bring the Art Trail by Rail back for a second year.
Andrew Watkins, Community & Development Manager at TransPennine Express, said: “Projects like the Hope Valley Art Trail show the important role community rail can play in bringing people together while encouraging more sustainable travel, which TransPennine Express is proud to support. By encouraging visitors to travel by train and bus, we’re helping people discover the area while supporting local communities, businesses and tourism.”
The trail runs September 26 and 27, 10am to 5pm, in villages along the Hope Valley railway line, from Chinley to Grindleford
