Derbyshire student selected for national agricultural award
The Centenary Award was launched by rural insurer NFU Mutual to celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2010; to support agricultural leaders of the future, and champion research and innovation within the industry.
A promising postgraduate agricultural student from Ilkeston, has been selected to receive a ‘Centenary Award’ bursary from The NFU Mutual Charitable Trust.
George Sensecall was selected for the award to support his Master’s in Agricultural Economics course at the University of Reading. George is undertaking the Master’s course to help make a positive contribution to the UK agri-food sector, supporting its long-term profitability and helping to strengthen food security for the British public.
George explained more: “The course at the University of Reading is built around using grounded, data-driven economics to tackle complex agrifood challenges. I will be studying the Economics of Public Policy alongside modules in Agricultural Project Appraisal, Market Trade, and Econometrics.
“This mixture of modules will marry my finance and agricultural backgrounds together, allowing me to create, design, and monitor robust, evidence-based interventions for the UK agricultural sector. "
The Centenary Award was launched by rural insurer NFU Mutual to celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2010; to support agricultural leaders of the future, and champion research and innovation within the industry. It provides annual bursaries to pay up to 75% of course fees for selected postgraduate students in agriculture, and George was one of only three students from across the UK to have been chosen for the award in 2026.
