The Hannells Darley Park concert is moving online this year after the live event in Derby had to be cancelled due to social distancing measures amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Pieces especially recorded for the ‘at home’ version will form part of the entertainment which includes highlights of the 2019 event which attracted hundreds of spectators.

The concert can be watched on iPlayer and listened to on Radio Derby on Sunday, August 30, from 6pm to 9pm – exactly the same date and time that the original live show should have been going ahead had Covid-19 measures not blocked it.

A cabaret band of seven Sinfonia Viva musicians will be recording new renditions of well-known favourites, under socially-distanced conditions, especially for the broadcast. The new music will include My Baby Just Cares For Me, Georgia On My Mind and Younger Than Springtime.Leader and violinist Sophie Rosa heads up the band and will be joined on vocals by Derbyshire singer Andy Quinn, who delighted the crowd at the Hannells Darley Park Concert in 2018.Firefighter Andy, a familiar face in musical theatre around Derbyshire for many years, achieved national attention when six million viewers watched him become the ‘unexpected star’ of Michael McIntyre’s Big Show on BBC One, with his rendition of Bring Him Home from Les Misérables.Specialising in performing songs from West End shows, swing and vintage, Andy said: “I’m thrilled to be working with Sinfonia Viva and James Holmes again, and delighted to have been asked back to perform for the Darley Park concert, even if the format is different this year. Working with such a professional team is always a highlight.”The cabaret band will be led by conductor James Holmes, who was due to lead this year’s live event. Sinfonia Viva’s new recordings are supported by Rolls-Royce.
