Town were put up for sale by owner William Rush earlier this year just 12 months into his tenure amid difficulties meeting day-to-day running costs.

The Puerto Rico-based businessman struggled to generate revenue, including a failed worldwide token scheme that raised just under £125,000 and led to refunds being issued.

His decision to sell came after the Reds were relegated from the National League North last season, ending a ten-year stay in the section.

In a statement this week, Alfreton Town said: “As supporters will know, we have made clear that we are looking for a capable buyer to take the helm of the club. This week, a private communication setting out some potential high-level terms was made public without our permission.

“We want to be clear about our approach. We are working tirelessly to set the club up for future success and that includes setting up new ownership to succeed.

“Part of that is ensuring that new ownership will inherit the club debt-free.

“North Street (Solana Stadium) will remain Alfreton Town’s home, and the site is restricted to sport and recreation use.”

Alfreton are currently mid-table in the top flight of the Northern Premier League under manager Jake Buxton and host Quorn FC tonight.

“On the training ground and the pitch, it is business as usual,” said the club statement.

“Jake, the players and staff remain focused on our fixtures, and we would like to thank them and our supporters for their continued backing.”
