Yeovil Town manager Darren Sarll praises Chesterfield but questions his own 'uninterested' players

The Glovers boss also had some strong words to say about his own team’s mentality as goals from Manny Oyeleke and Kabongo Tshimanga gave the Spireites all three points on Saturday.

"I thought Chesterfield were very good in the boxes today, I mean very good,” Sarll said.

"I thought their defending of set-plays was very strong and they have got that strength of character and physique.

"I thought when they took Gavin Gunning off it meant that George Carline had to go into the back three and that reduced the amount of diagonals on Jordan Barnett and I thought we got a better grip of the game but I thought that was powered by our better mentality than anything else.”

Sarll said Chesterfield’s second goal was a ‘horrow show’ as Scott Loach’s long kick was not dealt with before Tshimanga slotted in.

However, that was not the lowpoint of the afternoon, in his opinion.

He explained: "My biggest disappointment in the first-half was the body language of some of the players, I did not think they showed enough. Too many of our players looked uninterested, de-energised and that is something for me to go and think about. That for me is the worst part of the day, that supersedes the goal. I had to question some of them at half-time

"The second-half was a better mentality and a better thirst for chances and opportunities and I thought we defended better.

"I thought in the second-half we were the strongest team by quite a way but the difference between teams that win leagues and teams that don’t win leagues is when they are on top they score so that was a big problem for us today.”

Yeovil had a goal ruled out for a foul on Scott Loach when the score was goalless.

On that decision, Sarll added: “I think it is really difficult to see it in real time but I did not see arms. I think I saw Max Hunt try and head the ball. It looked a bit soft but goalkeepers get looked after, don’t they? I think they get looked after quite a bit these days.”
