The 25-year-old will provide competition for Shwan Jalal for the number one spot with Luke Coddington out injured for the rest of the season.

“I want to play as many games as I can but I’ve got to wait for my chance,” he said.

“Hopefully when I get it I can take it with both hands and help us as much as I can.”

Fitzsimons has only featured twice for County so far this season.

The deal includes an immediate recall clause and he will not be able to play against his parent club at Meadow Lane on February 1.

Fitzsimons came through the Crystal Palace academy before joining Bolton Wanderers on a free transfer in 2014.

After that he moved on to Braintree, Chelmsford City and then Notts County in 2017.

He has had previous loan spells at Havant and Waterlooville and Bishop’s Stortford.

Pemberton was keen to add an experienced back-up goalkeeper to his squad and made it a priority when taking over as caretaker boss.

Earlier this week he said: “That is something I have been having sleepless nights over really, trying to get one to come in with experience because if anything happens to Shwan then I want one who can go in there and can still do the job without worrying how he is going to react and that is what I am looking at now.”
