As many as 40 players wore the Spireites shirt as James Rowe ripped up the squad in November following his appointment as manager.
And the changes paid off as Town went from relegation strugglers to promotion challengers.
Some of those who feature below did not make enough appearances to be accurately judged, while others were regulars and made a big impact.
Here is how Liam Norcliffe rated each player out of 10 this season...

13. Haydn Hollis 9
He was not involved at the start of the season but Rowe immediately brought him in for his first match as manager and he was outstanding from that point on. He has had his criticis during his time at the club but you can' fault his performances from November to April but unfortunately he ruptured his achilles against Eastleigh and was ruled out for the rest of the season and more. His displays earned him a new contract. Photo: jason chadwick

14. Laurence Maguire 9
His best season in a Chesterfield shirt. Started every game except two. He captained the team a few times and was handed a new two-and-a-half-year deal following interest from Football League clubs in January. He made that left centre-back spot his own and put in some top performances. Photo: jason chadwick

15. David Buchanan 6
The left-back was a regular under Pemberton and started Rowe's first two matches but dropped down the pecking order when Joel Taylor and Alex Whittle were signed. His last appearance came on December 1. Photo: Steve Flynn/AHPIX LTD

16. Joel Taylor 7
Joined from Chester in December for a fee believed to be around £25,000 with potential add-ons. He started well and showed lots of promise but he had a double Covid setback during the winter months and later picked up a groin injury. There were some good performances from him when he did play but Rowe will no doubt want to see more consistency from him next season. Photo: Dean Atkins
