Joint business owners of Chesterfield clothing brand Courage Sportswear, Carl Cappellano and Ashley Warren, organised another community football match on Sunday, August 15, after the success of their first event in July, to continue raising money for mental health charities.

The pair, who launched their clothing company which aims to encourage people to open up about their mental health earlier this year, formed a team called Courage FC made up of players from ‘Chesterfield For Life’ CFCCT mental health football club.

Last month, the side raised £1,000 for Mind by holding a charity football match with Spireites’ legend Jamie Hewitt taking part.

Carl and Ashley continued their fundraising streak by holding another game with Courage FC taking on the coaches and parents of Chesterfield Junior Blues at Staveley Miners Welfare Football Club.

The charity match raised a total of £429 for the Steven Miller Foundation – a mental health charity set up in tribute to Steven, a footballer from the New Inn Tupton Football Club who took his own life in July 2018.

There was also a raffle with a signed Chesterfield FC ball up for grabs, as well as a bouncy castle, food stalls, games and face painting.

The auction will run until Friday, August 20 via the Courage Sportswear Facebook page and all the proceeds will be donated to another, smaller Chesterfield mental health charity.

Carl said: "It's important to us because I've lost two friends to suicide and a lot of people who support us have issues in and around mental health so we kind of see the struggles first hand.

"We just need to raise as much support as we can so people know that there is support out there.

"One of our key passions is helping others because we've all faced hard times and we don't think people should face them alone.”
