Chesterfield are exploring the Premier League loan market in their search for another goalkeeper.

The Spireites are trying to bring in a stopper to provide Ryan Boot with some competition before Friday’s 11pm transfer deadline. Clubs can’t sign players once the window closes apart from free agents.

Town missed out on re-signing Harry Tyrer on loan from Everton, with League One Blackpool securing his services for the season. Former Sheffield United goalkeeper Jamal Blackman also rejected a contract offer after a trial period.

Tyrer’s loan was a success for all parties, with the 22-year-old being a regular starter, Chesterfield winning promotion and Everton getting one of their young stars some senior first-team football, and it is understood that the Blues are looking to strike a similar deal with a top-flight side.

Some Premier League clubs have been reluctant to let some of their prospects leave on loan before now as they cast their eye over them, but the next couple of days will see that approach relax as they try get them some senior minutes.

Four-times title-winning manager Paul Cook and his talented coaching staff have already gained the trust of Premier League Fulham for the loans of Devan Tanton and Harvey Araujo, and Championship Blackburn Rovers for Dilan Markanday.

Teams can name up to five loan players in their matchday squad so if Chesterfield were to add two more then that would take them to the limit.

Clubs in League Two must submit their squad lists after this week’s deadline, with 22 players allowed, but goalkeepers and those under-21 do not count.

Chesterfield have made a solid start on their return to League Two, winning one and drawing two so far, and any new additions could be included in the squad for the trip to leaders Gillingham on Saturday (12.30pm kick-off).
