Chesterfield chairman embraces stand tribute to Phil Kirk
Chesterfield are progressing with plans to re-name a stand after much-missed former owner Phil Kirk.
Fans have wanted to honour the man who helped guide the Spireites back to the Football League two years ago as well as making stadium and training ground improvements before his death last summer from cancer.
The South Stand, which is the kop, will be re-named the Phil Kirk Stand.
Phil’s brother, chairman Ashley Kirk, confirmed that the signage contract has gone out to tender and the work will be done in the close season.

The scheme also has the blessing of Phil’s wife, Sharon, who is now effectively the club’s owner.
Ashley said: “It was an idea Sharon and myself felt was apt and it was in response to the supporters wanting to do something for him.
"It is something Phil would have been very proud of.”
Last Sunday’s League Two play-off semi-final first leg against Notts County coincided with what would have been Phil’s 60th birthday.
