In this piece, we’ll be lining up Chesterfield’s starting eleven against Chelsea’s to see how the two compare.
Chesterfield will be taking on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, January 8th – details of how to watch the game if you weren’t lucky enough to get a ticket can be found here.
9. Kai Havertz vs Liam Mandeville
Kai Havertz joined Chelsea in the summer of 2020 for a staggering £72 million - although when you consider the natural talent he possesses, it's understandable why they paid so much. His dribbling and movement off the ball are both excellent, not to mention the fact that he scored the winning goal in last year's Champions' League final. Liam Mandeville has bags of talent, as evidenced by his time at Doncaster Rovers, where he scored a number of eye catching goals. His attitude has been questioned at times, but he finally seems to be focusing on his football at Chesterfield. He joined the Spirites on a free transfer in 2019. Photo: -
10. Timo Werner vs Akwasi Asante
Timo Werner is a strange case - he was brought in as a goalscorer for £47.5 million, but his finishing has been found lacking. Instead, he's become more of a winger - making intelligent runs off the ball to create gaps in defences. His contribution to Chelsea's forward line often goes under the radar due to his eclectic shooting. Meanwhile, Akwasi Asante is certainly a talented footballer, but has had rotten luck with injuries over the past few years. When fit, he's a monster - 22 goals in 33 games for Chester and eight goals in nine games for Gloucester says it all. He signed for Chesterfield in 2020 for an undisclosed amount. Photo: -
11. Romelu Lukaku vs Kabongo Tshimanga
Romelu Lukaku has been mired in controversy as of late and has angered many of Chelsea's supporters - regardless, he still remains as one of the best strikers in the world. While his technical ability has been found lacking on occasion, his monolithic physicality and natural eye for goal make him a threat to any defence on the planet. Kabongo Tshimanga has undoubtedly been Chesterfield's star man in the 2021/2022 campaign. 19 goals in 22 games make him not only the Spirites' top scorer, but also the top scorer in the National League. Fast, strong and with excellent finishing ability, Tshimanga warrants his fee of what is thought to be £250,000. Photo: -
