Teacher backs Moonlight charity walk

A Heanor school teacher will be among women set to take part in the Moonlight Walk on June 27.

Julie Walker, from Oakwood, is head of performing arts at Heanor Gate Science College.

The walk is set to raise thousands forTreetops Hospice in Risley.

It provides end of life care for adults and their families from Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.

Julie will be walking with a group called the Porters Lane Ladies, after the street they live on.

She, said: “None of us know what’s around the corner in our lives so it’s up to us to make sure places like Treetops Hospice exists by supporting it.”

Rosie Coates, community fundraiser at Treetops Hospice, said: “We need around 10 ladies a day to sign up between now and the walk to reach our target of 750 ladies doing the Moonlight Walk. It normally costs £12 to register but if people register early, before 13 May, then it will £10.”

The walk takes place around Derby and there are 5k and a 10k routes. It sets off from the University of Derby.
