Announcing the move, Coun Spencer thanked residents for their ‘patience and understanding’ while the centres have been closed.

He urged people to ‘please follow the rules’ when the centres are reopened with social distancing measures in place.

Previously, the authority said the Government needed ‘to make it clear that visiting a site is classed as an essential journey’ before the centres could be reopened to the public.

Recycling centres at Sheffield Road, Chesterfield, and Buttermilk Lane, Bolsover, as well as others across the county, were closed when lockdown measures were introduced in March.
