Retired shopkeeper from Derbyshire shot himself, inquest hears

A retired shopkeeper from Derbyshire died by suicide, a coroner has ruled.

Derek Webster was 87 when he took his own life at his home on Glen Vine, Ripley, last summer.

His inquest was held at Chesterfield Coroner’s Court on Friday.

Susan Evans, assistant coroner, said: “Mr Webster suffered from chronic heart failure.

“On July 16, 2020, his condition had deteriorated rapidly and was unlikely to improve and he died at home after shooting himself with a shotgun.”

She recorded a conclusion of suicide.
