Derbyshire buses: MP issues update after changes to Derbyshire bus route spark concerns
The bus provider Stagecoach said that changes were necessary to ‘improve reliability’ on the route.
Bolsover MP Natalie Fleet has issued an update after bus provider Stagecoach has introduced changes to the 23/23A service in Shirebrook.
Under the new framework, which came in place on August 31, two bus services have been combined into a single route running every 30 minutes - as opposed to the previous two-hour timetable.
But the revised route has sparked concerns with some residents facing a longer walk to their closest bus stop as some stops have been omitted.
Bolsover MP Natalie Fleet raised concerns with Stagecoach and has now issued an update.
In an online statement she said : “Following concerns raised by residents about the recent changes to the 23/23A bus service, we have now received a response from Stagecoach.
“Stagecoach has explained that the changes were introduced to improve reliability.
“The previous two hourly routes have been replaced by one service that runs every 30 minutes, in addition to an extra bus for the 23/23A fleet. Early figures suggest these changes have seen increased passenger numbers and improved punctuality.
“However, some residents will now face longer walks to bus stops.
“While a more reliable service is welcome, accessibility remains equally important - especially for elderly residents and those with mobility issues.
“Stagecoach has confirmed that the route will remain under review, and I will continue to raise residents' concerns.
“A big thank you to Cllr Jane Yates for continuing to push for answer and ensuring that your voices are heard.”
MP Natalie Fleet has further called for residents to share feedback on the changes with her.
