Matlock antiques group marks 60 years

One of the oldest societies in Matlock is to celebrate its 60th anniversary in style with a demonstration afternoon by well-known local florist Robert Young.

Matlock Antique Circle was formed in October 1966, holding its first meeting at Tawney House, Matlock Green.

The guest speaker at that inaugural meeting was no other than the BBCs ‘Going for a Song’ presenter Arthur Negus, who spoke about how to tell a real antique from a counterfeit.

Today’s society is still going strong and has been re-named Matlock Antiques and Collectables Society, holding monthly meetings on the second Friday of each month in the Imperial rooms Matlock at 2.30pm, with speakers travelling from far and wide giving inspiring, illustrated talks.

To mark the anniversary milestone, local florist Robert Young will give a floral demonstration using fresh flowers arranged in antique containers along with giving tips and advice.

The event takes place from 2.30pm in the Imperial Rooms, Matlock, on October 9, with tickets costing £10. The flower displays will be raffled off afterwards, with all proceeds going to Alzheimer’s Research.

Tickets are available in advance from Robert Young Florist, Tansley on 01629 580254.
