Umbrellas Cosy Hub wants the Windows of Hope initiative to raise smiles and make people feel optimistic for the future after what has been a difficult 2020.

Jane Bentley, trustee at Umbrellas Cosy Hub, said: “Leading up to Christmas, let’s take the opportunity to do something positive – something that’s really easy as well.

“Following on from the wonderful rainbows that everyone made earlier in the year, showing their support for the NHS and key workers, let’s transform our area by putting angels and stars into our windows to show that we have hope.

“Even if you’re not feeling hopeful at the moment, just the act of doing it, and seeing others joining in, can give you a sense of hope.”

Jane added: “We’ve got local groups, schools and churches promoting this idea – it’s simply to try and bring something positive into otherwise potentially gloomy times.

“We would love to see more people get involved.”

She said the initiative stared in the Grangewood, Boythorpe and Birdholme areas and the charity would like to see it spread across the rest of Chesterfield.
