Former Derbyshire police officer launches fundraiser for the Sheffield hospital that treated his daughter
“Children can spend weeks on end away from home while having treatment and the play room provides a lot of pleasure for the children “
A former Derbyshire police officer is launching a fundraiser for the Sheffield children's hospital oncology ward which treated his daughter when she was battling Leukaemia at the age of 4.
Sam Bannister has set up a Go Fund Me page to raise money to buy toys and games for the play room on the ward.
Sam’s daughter Charlotte, was treated on the ward almost 30 years ago.
Sam said: “Children can spend weeks on end away from home while having treatment and the play room provides a lot of pleasure for the children
“My deadline is 1st December 2026 then me and my daughter will go buy the items and deliver them to the ward where my daughter will do the handover.”
Sam is no stranger to charity fundraising, having spent several years collecting gifts and money in aid of the Action For Children charity’s local branch
In total Sam has raised around £15,000 worth of new toys and games and go fund me donations over the last six years.
