Clean-up underway after fire at popular Chesterfield town centre restaurant

A clean-up is underway at a Chesterfield town centre restaurant after a major fire was sparked in a kitchen extraction system.

The blaze is believed to have started in The Stuffed Olive Turkish restaurant, on Lordsmill Street, just before 5pm on Tuesday, August 10.

A spokesperson for Thai restaurant Thai Thai, next door, said it had also been forced to close last night but would be open as normal today.

He said: “The fire was in The Stuffed Olive next door. We were not too badly damaged and can open today.

"We had to close last night when the fire service was here.”

Firefighters from Chesterfield, Staveley and Class Cross fire stations were called to the kitchen fire, with a large plume of smoke visible across much of the town at its height.

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said the blaze started in the kitchen on the ground floor of the three-storey property.

A spokesperson for the service said: “At 16:54 hours yesterday, 10 August 2021, crews from Chesterfield, Staveley and Clay Cross Fire Stations attended a kitchen fire on Lordsmill Street, Chesterfield.

“Crews used two breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire that started on the kitchen on the ground floor of the property.”
