Firefighters tackled a large blaze at a Chesterfield town centre restaurant this evening.

Crews from Chesterfield, Clay Cross and Staveley fire stations were called to the scene on Lordsmill Street just before 5pm on Tuesday, August 10.

Photos sent to us by reader Elise Hunt showed a large plume of smoke above Chesterfield Jobcentre and fire crews on Lordsmill Street.

A spokesperson for Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said two fire engines remained at the scene at 6.30pm.

She said: “The fire was a kitchen fire involving the extraction system which goes up into the roof. The system goes up three floors.

"We have now had the stop message but crews remain at the scene and are using a thermal imaging camera as part of their investigations.”
