Two strong men from Chesterfield have scooped top prizes in the British Arm Wrestling Championships.

In the contest held in Spondon, John Scowby, 30, from Staveley, came first in the super heavyweight category, using his right hand.

His pal, 26-year-old Wojtek Jablecki, of Brimington, came first using his left hand.

Both men are members of Staveley-based Chesterfield Bad Boys Arm Wrestling Club.

John said: “We’re trained by Alan Greaves and Garry Ricketts, who’ve both won world and national tiles on several occasions, and we’d like to say a big thank you to them.

“Chesterfield is big for arm wrestling champions.”

Councillor Anne-Frances Hayes, who serves Staveley on Derbyshire County Council, said: “This is a fantastic achievement.
