Derbyshire Day is a well-known annual event in the south of county – but now Howard Borrell is calling for Chesterfield to get involved in the fun.
Howard told the Derbyshire Times: “So many other counties have a date every year to celebrate everything that is good about them – Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Lincolnshire, to name just a few.

“I think others elsewhere had backed away because there was almost a feeling that the day was owned by the south of the county.
“But I think it’s now time that Derbyshire Day was extended – with locals organising events.
“It’s been a tough year because of the coronavirus pandemic – and I think it would be absolutely wonderful if residents and businesses in Chesterfield came together next month to celebrate Derbyshire Day.”

He added: “Here is an opportunity to fix this date in your diary and celebrate it in any way you choose.
“If you're a pub, you may wish to have a special choice of Derbyshire beers around that date.
“If you’re a restaurant, a menu made up solely of Derbyshire produce would be a real winner.

“We have the good fortune to live in probably the most beautiful county in the UK – let’s celebrate that in as many ways as possible.”
Aftab Gulzar, editor at BBC Radio Derby, said: “We want everyone to celebrate everything that’s wonderful about where we live on Derbyshire Day.
“However, due to the uncertainty of the pandemic, BBC Radio Derby’s Derbyshire Day will be different this year. We’ll be announcing our plans in the coming weeks.”
