Warning after dog owner is chased and verbally abused on Chesterfield Canal path

Dog owners in Chesterfield are being warned to remain vigilant after a man was verbally abused and chased while out running with his beloved pet along the canal.

The incident, which happened along the Chesterfield Canal path, was reported on the Spotted Staveley Facebook page on Monday.

Other dog owners are now being warned to ‘be aware’ when walking their pets in the area.

“My husband was running down canal at 3.30pm this afternoon,” the Facebook post read.

“He was approached by a group of young men. They were taking pictures of our dog and were trying to get him to come closer.

"My husband got a really bad feeling about the situation and picked up the dog and ran away from them over the fields - they chased him and verbally abused him - he got back with dog safe and sound seems to be a lot of this going just be aware people.”
