Scammers pretend to be calling on behalf of Chesterfield Borough Council to trick residents with fake boiler scheme

Fraudsters have called Chesterfield residents, pretending to be working on behalf of the council, about a scheme to get a gas boiler or insulation fitted.

Chesterfield Borough Council warned people about fraudulent calls which are being made by people pretending to be calling on behalf of the local authority in a post on Twitter this morning (Wednesday, July 14).

The local authority said residents had reportedly received calls from a company claiming to be working for the council about a Government scheme for gas boilers or insulation.

Chesterfield council reminded people that if they have applied for Green Homes Grant funding they will be contacted directly.

In a post on Twitter, the local authority said: “Residents have reported receiving calls from a company claiming to be calling on behalf of the council about a Government scheme for gas boilers or insulation.

“This is a scam.

"If you have applied for Green Homes Grant funding, you'll be contacted directly by the council.”
