Man in hospital with 'serious injuries' following assault in Derbyshire town

A man in his 60s remains in a ‘serious condition’ in hospital after an alleged assault in Shirebrook this morning.

The victim was found with serious injuries in Chestnut Drive just before 7am this morning (Wednesday, August 11) and was taken to hospital.

A man, also in his 60s, has been arrested.

Inspector John Troup said: “While this will no doubt be a troubling incident to the local community it is understood that this is an isolated event and there is no wider risk to the public.

“Over the coming days there will be an increased police presence in the area as enquiries continue into the circumstances of the incident.
