Police were called at 4.30pm on Saturday, September 12, to reports that two men had had an altercation on the playing fields off Town Lane, Newton, and that one man had been assaulted.

A 65-year-old man is in hospital following the incident and a 51-year-old man has been arrested.

Police were called to Newton to investigate the assault.
