Investigation launched as woman dies in Chesterfield flat fire

An investigation has been launched after a woman tragically died in a flat fire in Chesterfield.

Firefighters from Chesterfield, Staveley, Dronfield and Clay Cross were called to attend the blaze on Devonshire Close, Newbold at around 8.50pm yesterday evening (Saturday, September 12).

On arrival crews were met with a well-developed fire in a first floor flat.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the building, locating one female.

She was sadly pronounced dead at the scene by East Midlands Ambulance Service.

A spokesperson for Derbyshire Fire and Rescue said: “Our thoughts and sympathy are with the family and friends of the deceased at this distressing time.”

A joint police and fire investigation into the cause of the fire is now underway.
