Man in his 60s remains in 'serious condition' in hospital after alleged assault in Derbyshire town

A man in his 60s remains in a ‘serious condition’ in hospital following an alleged assault in a Derbyshire town yesterday morning.

Derbyshire police have confirmed that the victim who was found with serious injuries in Chestnut Drive, Shirebrook, just before 7am on Wednesday, August 11 is still in hospital.

There has been no change in the man’s condition which remains serious according to the force.

Officers arrested a man, also in his 60s, in connection with the alleged assault yesterday, who remains in police custody.

A spokesperson for the force said: “The arrested man remains in custody.

"No change in the victims condition at this time.

"Remains in hospital in a serious condition.

"We haven’t got any further information to release at this time.”

In a statement released yesterday, Inspector John Troup said: “While this will no doubt be a troubling incident to the local community it is understood that this is an isolated event and there is no wider risk to the public.

“Over the coming days there will be an increased police presence in the area as enquiries continue into the circumstances of the incident.

“If you have information, or concerns, about what has happened please talk to the officers.

“Should you not feel comfortable approaching them in person then you can report any details to the force using any of the below methods, including reference 154-110821.”
