Alleged drink driver crashes Golf into Chesterfield off-licence

An alleged drink driver crashed their car into a shop on a busy Chesterfield road last night.

Derbyshire police officers revealed the incident had taken place after posting photographs of the scene on social media.

Fire crews had been called to Derby Road, Birdholme, at 11.40pm on Wednesday, September 22.

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said crews from Chesterfield Fire Station attended a road traffic collision ‘involving one car into a building on Derby Road, Birdholme’.

"No persons were trapped or injured and crews made the scene safe,” the fire service tweeted.

"The incident was handed over to the police.”

The vehicle appears to have crashed through railings and ended up hitting the shutters of the Premier off-licence.

The county’s Roads Policing Unit tweeted: “A61 Derby Road, Chesterfield. Drink driver of this Golf arrested. Photos say all that needs to be said.”

Officers also urged people not to drink and drive.
