Mum's warning after daughter ‘shot at with air rifle’ while walking dogs in Chesterfield

A worried mum has issued a warning after her daughter was allegedly shot at with an air rifle while walking her dogs in Chesterfield.

Tracey Redfern said her daughter was walking down a private lane off Ringwood Road in Brimington when the incident occurred at around 6.55pm on Saturday, September 18.

The alleged shooter, who is believed to have been a man, was seen crouching behind a bush after the gun was reportedly discharged.

Warning other residents on the Hollingwood Residents Facebook page, Tracey said her daughter made a hasty retreat to the main road after the ordeal, which has understandbly left her shaken.

She said: “Just wanted to make everyone aware my daughter was walking her dogs down Danny’s lane and at the bottom as she was about to head back up someone took a shot at her with an air rifle.

"She turned to see a male in a dark hoodie squat down behind a bush as she ran for the road this has shaken her up very much and the police have been notified just be careful anyone heading down that way.”

In response, Zoe Page said: “Just mentioned to my fella and he said there was an air rifle shooting whilst I was sorting the horses.”

Speaking to the Derbyshire Times, Tracey revealed her daugher “heard the shot whiz past her and hit a metal fence which was about a metre away”.

“She just ran then as she was scared he may have took another shot as she clearly saw in his hand a rifle which he was holding with both hands,” Tracey added.

A spokesperson for Derbyshire police has confirmed that officers attended the scene after being alerted to the alleged air rifle but were unable to locate the man thought to be the shooter.

They said: “The force was called to reports that a man had been seen with what was described as an air rifle on a lane off Ringwood Road, Chesterfield, at around 7.25pm on Saturday September 18.

“Officers attended the scene and were unable to locate the man, who was described as wearing dark clothing with a grey t-shirt.

"Anyone who has information about the incident can contact the force with reference 1146-180921.”
