Chesterfield Poundland applies for alcohol licence at Ravenside Retail Park store
and on Freeview 262 or Freely 565
The company is seeking permission from licensing bosses at Chesterfield Borough Council to sell booze at the store between 8am-9pm every day of the week.
Poundland says it is part of the firm’s development from a ‘single price point retailer’ into one selling well-known brands at multiple prices like other supermarkets.

Poundland says the alcohol will be sold at regular high street prices and not, as the company name suggests, for £1 or at heavily discounted prices.
The licensing application states: “Poundland stores provide a general style supermarket offering to its customers and now have a well-established range of more than 3,000 items sold, including chilled and frozen foods, general groceries, health and beauty products, household and entertainment.
"However, despite the current range, Poundland shoppers are buying more of what they need in competitor stores and, as a consequence, the company are undertaking a process of expanding their products so that the overall offer is more aligned with their supermarket competitors.
"This change will enable their shoppers to buy what they want or need from their Poundland Supermarket in one visit.

“In making these changes to the business Poundland have partnered with the wholesalers Bestway for the provision of the additional products, including all alcohol."
