Chesterfield film academy invites teenagers to register interest ahead of launch

“By collaborating on set, students gain authentic production experience and build confidence, whether they want to step in front of the lens or work behind it."

A brand-new screen acting and filmmaking academy designed specifically for teenagers aged 11 to 17 is set to open its doors in Chesterfield in January 2027.

Motion Film Academy has opened an online register of interest, giving local young people and their parents the opportunity to sign up early before official venue locations and weekend class schedules are finalized.

Unlike traditional drama groups that focus primarily on theatre, Motion Film Academy concentrates entirely on performance and production for the camera. The program brings aspiring young actors and crew members together in the same space, offering practical experience in screen acting, directing, camera operation, lighting, sound recording, and video editing.

The academy is led by feature film director Stanley Roubaix, who brings over 25 years of operational leadership and production experience to the project.

"Most performing arts schools treat acting and filmmaking as completely separate disciplines," said Stanley Roubaix, Founder of Motion Film Academy. "We do things differently.

“Actors learn how to perform specifically for the camera, while filmmakers learn how to direct performance. By collaborating on set, students gain authentic production experience and build confidence, whether they want to step in front of the lens or work behind it."

While exact venue details within Chesterfield will be confirmed in the coming months, parents and teenagers can register their interest now to receive priority updates, session schedules, and early enrolment options ahead of the official launch.
