2. Armour plated vessels.
Industrialist, John Brown, born in Sheffield 1816, became known as the Father of the South Yorkshire Iron Trade. By inspecting an armoured French ship, La Gloire, Brown determined that rolled armour plating could be used instead of the ship’s hammered plating. Photo: MCT
