Summertime is full of fun at these popular events which are months in the planning and run by dedicated volunteers.
With the carnival and gala season in full swing, here are some of the towns and villages that deserve to be visited by you this summer.
9. Saturday, July 8, 2023
Newton Carnival on July 8 will launch at 11am with a parade including the Seaforth Highlanders making its way to the parish ground at Charnwood Cresent. 10. Saturday, July 15, 2023
Tupton Carnival will launch with a parade from Ford Street to Tupton Primary School field on Saturday, July 15, at 12.30pm. There will be games, live music from Soul Stereo, bouncy castle, fairground ride, face painting and more than 40 stalls. Photo: National World
11. Saturday, July 29 to Thursday, August 3, 2023
Bonsall Carnival week will be opened by Matthew Harris on Saturday, July 29, at 1pm. There will be a procession of floats, crowning of the carnival king and queen, salsa dancing, the Red Barrows display team, Sam the clown and his amazing circus skills, fairground rides, bouncy castle, live music and all kinds of stalls. Attractions during carnival week include Tea on the Park on July 30 with scones and drink and live music by Youlgrave Silver Band; a five-mile fun run around the village on July 31; It's A Knockout with wheelbarrow and bike races in the park on August 2 and Bonsall Carnival T'owd Man's Treasure Hunt on August 3. 12. Wednesday, August 16 to Sunday, August 20, 2023
Barlow Carnival's main day on July 18 will include a parade to the village hall on Millcross Lane that sets off at 1pm, and a vintage car show with judging at 2.30pm. Organisers have yet to announce the full programme for the 2023 five-day festival whose roots stretch back to 1957; we can't wait to see what they have in store to greet those visiting the village from August 16 to 20.
